Forever the Rebel offers a commanding presence on the absolute exuberance of “ICKY VICKY.” Volume needs to be blasted, for this is a sheer physical sound that washes over the listener. The inherent tension of the piece rests with her flow. She has a razor-sharp focus over the course of the entire thing, something that refuses ever truly to let up. Deep into the sound is this distinctive edge to how the song plays out. Elements of Middle Eastern music, the sampling at least, gives it a late 90s/early 00s quality, further cementing its already rather classic cadence. Best of all, she never lets up, constantly hitting the listener with ever more bad behavior that feels so good.
How the sounds echo off into the distance feels fantastic. Again, Percussion has a tactile approach to it. The beat work here has an incredibly original method. The bass rumbles through, and woofers are a must because this is the sort of thing that vibrates on through. Full of such strength to it, her flow keeps things tight, and she perfectly rides the beat in a way that has a seemingly endless sense of possibility, the way she hits it whenever she wants.
“ICKY VICKY” offers a robust, muscular atmosphere with a dominant presence over the listener and establishes Forever the Rebel as an artist worth watching.
