In his latest single, ‘Pullin’ Up,’ Chip Tha Ripper does what few other rappers can do anymore – he shows audiences exactly how a successful artist enjoys the good life.
Chip Tha Ripper has shared his latest album, The Charles Worth LP. The album, released in late 2023, is the Cleveland rapper’s fifth official studio album to date – it’s also his most exciting in years.
Throughout the album’s 21 songs, the artist (known as King Chip throughout the 2010s but who reverted to his original moniker in 2019) takes listeners journeying through his city, family memories, struggles, and recent triumphs.
The Charles Worth LP is an exciting look at the honest Chip – the one who exists behind the rap artist name he has given himself. The album itself feels like a breath of fresh air in a world where superficiality in music is the norm.
And even with that honesty and the profoundly personal nature of The Charles Worth LP, Chip Tha Ripper isn’t afraid to give fans an insight into what success means to him – and how he enjoys it.
On ‘Pullin’ Up,’ Chip reminds listeners that when he does anything, he does it with style, including rocking up to a social setting. In the song’s chorus, he raps: “On bling when I’m pulling up/Big smoke when I’m pulling up/Took hoes when I’m pulling up/Big dough when I’m pulling up.”
The production and delivery of this song are as sleek and classy as a blockbuster movie. Chip is playful in his lyrics, too. He’s got such a grasp over his flow that he can rap confrontational lines like: “Sliding through the city with the jar, a big jar model X long range take a nigga far/I ain’t finna tolerate your little punk ass funky attitude you can stay right there where you are” and you can imagine that the person he’s addressing would probably still nod along and smile back at him.
‘Pullin’ Up’ is a valuable reminder that everything Chip Tha Ripper does harkens back to his days on the streets of Cleveland. He may have become internationally famous thanks to the viral success of his ‘Interior Crocodile Alligator’ freestyle back in 2007 (yup, it was that long ago) and from his frequent partnerships with Kid Cudi – but Chip is a street hustler above all else.
He says his streetwise nature has kept him grounded all these years. He has recently stated that his career grew “organically” on the streets of Cleveland and that internet fame came afterward. This is why songs like ‘Pullin’ Up’ never sound overly bloated or boastful; they sound like verses written by a man who has hustled all his life and now appreciates the taste of success….
