JS aka The Best Adds to the Vibrant DC Music Scene with Bossa Nova

Washington DC is the birthplace of a whole slew of different styles, ranging from hardcore punk to subgenres of funk. The city absolutely writhes with anticipation about what will come next. A strong counterculture has always been essential to the city’s sense of self, resulting in a number of musicians that have emerged out of the scene. Vocalists like Henry Rollins, groups like Bad Brains, Fugazi, Wale, Chuck Brown & The Soul Searchers, and BackYard Band, all of these can trace their origins to DC’s most active spots, like Dupont Circle and Adams Morgan in clubs like 9.30 Club and Black Cat.

JS aka The Best’s music proves to be a combination of so many different genres, with his distinct blend emphasizing the purely physical. On his latest release Bossa Nova, the listener is greeted with the enormous grandeur of epic chords alongside hyperactive percussion. A trained percussionist, it makes sense that the beats on here have a distinctive physicality to them. Indeed, at times it feels as if the rhythms go for a unique syncopation. They do for JS aka The Best incorporates Go-go music, a DC specialty, alongside elements of hip-hop, pop, and even EDM into this rather beguiling mix. Best of all his experience as a producer shines through the album for there is a grace to the lush sound.

Bossa Nova presents yet another chapter in DC’s already storied musical history, with JS aka The Best proving to be an expert musician and producer.
