Mike Hall is a man of many hats. He’s a bassist, business owner, and co-founder of a successful pop-rock band. But most importantly, he’s a man who knows how to get things done. He began playing the cello in elementary school but had trouble with poor posture. His orchestra teacher switched him to upright bass, and after graduating from Madison High School he elected for a new instrument: guitar! Co-founder of Running Late, Mike had the opportunity to tour with big acts such as Blondie and Plain White T’s. After co-founding and managing the pop rock band Running Late for over five years, Mike Hall left to pursue becoming an instrumentalist under his own name. He has since released two albums as a solo artist with more music planned in 2022.
In his early twenties, Mike Hall was already making a name for himself in the music industry. But it was when he began to play as a solo instrumentalist, playing a technique that blends the use of two handed tapping, slapping, and flamenco that he really began to make a difference.
One of his most recent releases, The Next Step, puts his creativity and skill set on full display. Mike’s solo arrangements of “Sweet Child O’Mine”, “All I Ask Of You” and Billie Jean showcase his signature style that incorporates elements from harmonics to mutes. He plays with controlled aggression yet still manages deliver an elegant performance through each song which is a true feat in itself!
Hall has built up an engaged following on social media over the last year, with his versions of popular tracks being viewed tens-of thousands times. His recent takes have included “Californication” by Red Hot Chili Peppers and “Heartless,” by The Weeknd among others – both songs are from modern pop catalogs but Mike’s bass guitar interpretation makes them feel completely different than what you’re used to hearing!
