Single Review: LA-based band Circle The Earth shows you can still have fun while making a provocative statement on the new single ‘Slight Curiosity’.

Circle The Earth’s latest single ‘Slight Curiosity’ offers a withering takedown of those who live a privileged lifestyle and think they’re better than others. But, in typically brilliant style, they keep the music upbeat and the rock steady. Here’s why you should listen to them (if you haven’t been doing so already).

Based in Los Angeles, Circle The Earth is a rapidly rising quintet, with members hailing from three different continents and four different countries. Their cross-cultural background has allowed Circle The Earth to think beyond the narrow confines of borders (both in terms of their music genres and their members themselves). The band has explicitly set out a mission statement focused on defying genres and highlighting versatility. The five-piece incorporates everything from funk to jazz to pop in their music while flying under the banner of rock music.

Speaking about their style and musical approach, founder Michael McBay has said: “It’s simple for us. We aim to create beautiful and powerful rock music with integrity and an underlying positive message. Our band consists of people from all different places. We’re trying to show the world what it can be like when various cultures cooperate in service of a positive goal. Musically and personally, we all look out for and take care of each other.”

That positivity seeps into every part of Circle The Earth’s music. They are a band that knows the secrets to making music that is fun, while at the same time ensuring that they craft technically brilliant songs. Circle The Earth first gained attention last year, following the release of their singles ‘Dead,’ ‘Diamonds,’ and ‘Sweetest Pain,’ then their acclaimed EP Hey Goodbye

Earlier this year, Circle The Earth combined their forces with frontwoman Aviva Scott in 2024, which was probably the most fitting collaboration that either could ask for. Aviva herself agreed with this assessment, noting: “I felt right at home in Circle The Earth. We’re a family already, and I’m so blessed and grateful. It makes the whole thing propel so quickly and I’m having a blast.”

Circle The Earth’s fanbase has already warmly received their most recent singles from 2024, including ‘Numb’ and ‘Stuck In The Middle,’ both of which were praised for taking an upfront yet upbeat look at difficult themes.

With that being a starting point, their newest single ‘Slight Curiosity’ continues in this fashion. ‘Slight Curiosity’ takes a swipe at an unnamed individual whose privileged lifestyle has made himself – and others – think that he is God’s gift. It’s a potent, powder keg song, with Aviva Scott and co. admitting that they’re slightly curious about the proclaimed Casanova’s lifestyle (hence the title), but that ultimately the person’s actions aren’t what they’re about.

Another winner from Circle The Earth, who are currently on a winning streak.

‘Slight Curiosity’ will be released on October 29. To find out more about Circle The Earth, follow them on Instagram or stream their music now on Spotify.
