Sycklone offers Defiance and Determination in his Soulful Sound.

Sharing the stage with such luminaries as Joe Budden and Montana of 300, Sycklone has more than paid his dues. He’s worked in audio engineering for over a decade, and it shows. The atmosphere present on his tracks has such a polish. More than simply a fidelity thing, he manages to craft vignettes out of his experience. The songs feel lived-in, raw, and honest. Everything within his lyricism shows real attention to detail, from the glistening waves of synthesizers to the buoy beats found within, adding to the punctuation of his words.

His appearances on stage at The Phoenix Landing/Middle East Club in Cambridge, Massachusetts, led to his discovery by Bentley Records. On that label, he released two albums, “Self Made” and “On A Wave.” Both were well-received, with critics praising his wordplay and ability to explore mood. These two explored a more brutal sound that his most recent output seems to have been altered.

He presents a sea change from his previous output on “The Green Files,” due out later this year. Already teased through the singles “Ocean Eyes,” “Reminisce,” and “Label Me King,” the softer approach syncs up perfectly with his more contemplative kick. Highly anticipated, given the number of years he’s been toiling away on it, and perhaps the most confessional Sycklone has ever gotten with his audience, it is going to be one of those albums to spend some time with to understand its unique logic fully.
