On the 2023 single ‘Baby Went Missin’, Blake G shows that he’s schooled in early rock’n’roll, rhythm and blues, and soul music – but he’s also well-equipped to give this song a swooning, boyband-esque modern sheen. It marks yet another achievement from this rising Miami-born singer with a bright future ahead of him.
R&B-pop singer Blake G has released his latest single ‘Baby Went Missin’, as he continues to offer plenty of intensely relatable tunes to his audience.
Born and raised in Miami, Florida, the artist has released just over half a dozen singles and has managed to rack up some incredible streaming figures in the last few months – garnering over 25,000 monthly listens at the start of 2024.
Blake G.’s family history defined both himself and his music. He is of Italian descent, with traces of South African heritage from his father – and the broad mix of cultures he grew up around helped inform him as a youth. He fell in love with music from a young age and is a natural-born tenor.
The root of Blake G.’s love for singing came from the doo-wop crooners of the 50s and 60s – many of whom inspired Blake’s unique singing voice. He says he’s an “emotive and soulful artist,” which perhaps explains why he uses his music to tackle abiding subjects – such as love, hope, and romance.
But Blake’s unique style helps scream that “old soul” music into the modern era. Since he first landed on the scene over five years ago, he has released some excellent, catchy pop hits – many of which are reminiscent of some of this era’s top boybands.
This might explain why Blake has teamed up with his closest music collaborator – the multiplatinum producer and recording artist B. Howard – in recent years. Blake had the honor of joining B. Howard on stage during a tribute show for the late Aaron Carter, where the Backstreet Boys, O Town, LFO, several members of NSYNC, and 98 Degrees were all in attendance. Their performance of ‘What More Can I Give’ – written by Michael Jackson – helped raise over $100,000 for On Our Sleeves, a charity that provides care for children battling mental illness. To this day, Blake G cites it as a pivotal moment in his burgeoning career. Blake also performed at the legendary Guitar Hotel at Seminole Hard Rock Casino’s Daer Nightclub to over 1,000 people to open the premiere of Ciro Dapagio’s film, The Movie Mobking.
Among the many excellent tracks that Blake G has shared since he first started making music, ‘Baby Went Missin’ is perhaps his most straightforwardly catchy. The artist takes an old-school doo-wop template and breathes fiery new life into it. With a full band at his backing – including tight brass riffs and frenetic piano melodies – Blake lets his voice do what it does best as he sings earnestly about losing a woman in his life and wanting her back.
‘Baby Went Missin’ came out at the start of 2023, paving the way for a productive 12 months for the Orlandoi serenader. Expect to hear plenty more from him in 2024.
