The San Francisco wordsmith offers some lyrical treats and outrageously inventive production as he combines sitar sounds with hip-hop beats on ‘Talk To Me Nicely.’
We’re still only halfway through 2023, but it’s safe to say that future hip-hop star Bo Blitz has spent every minute of this year trying to make his voice and music heard.
Based in San Francisco’s Bay Area, the rapper has kept things interesting regarding the singles he dropped (four this year alone). With each new release, there’s a fresh sound, an exciting production twist, and a new avenue for him to show his prowess as a rap lyricist.
‘Talk To Me Nicely’ is no different. The track combines a sitar guitar riff’s bright, resonant sounds with dark, intense drum kicks and basslines. It works beautifully.
The production also makes room for Bo Blitz to offer some inspired lyrics. There are too many highlights to list here, but “Mic checker, dome checker, bone collecter, like Dexter – handles with the Black & Decker” and “Getting paid C-Notes, is the right key/If I don’t turn a profit I get Ike-y” are among some of the best (and the most darkly funny).
It’s rare to encounter rappers who can offer inspired, free-associating cultural references in their lyrics, not to mention the ability to keep a rhyme going line after line – and all of this with biting vocals that cut through the speakers. Bo Blitz is doing things most artists couldn’t conceive of.
